McGriff, 76, mentor to many By KAY POWELL When a child got out of line at the prestigious Atlanta Athletic Club, he knew to expect a prayer meeting with the athletic director, Wiley R. McGriff.

He left that prayer meeting, as the boys called them, not chastened but with said Kip Smiley of Alpharetta. just invested in our Mr. Smiley said. we were acting up, he would put us on the right road. He took the time to invest in our minds and hearts.

He would hold us accountable and worked on our character.
